Revitalizing Government

Negative images have come to dominate most Americans' perceptions of government and its role in our society. These trends present a real problem for our democracy and undermine every public interest agenda--from environmental protection and civil rights, to economic justice--including fair lending practices and market oversight, as well as reasonable and responsible energy policy and healthcare for all.

Demos believes that now is the moment to mount countervailing efforts in support of the ideals of community and broad common purposes--and government's role in achieving them. Public Works: The Demos Center for the Public Sector, along with key Demos Fellows have completed intensive research on public perceptions of government, and are now working to motivate organizations across the country to consciously engage in activities that will support the role of government in achieving the critical balance between the public good and private interests.
